Actor Jeremy Renner was trying to stop his “snowcat” (a vehicle used in the snow) from hitting his nephew when he was pulled under the crushing cleaning machine on New Year’s Day, according to an incident report from the Office of the Sheriff of Washoe County.
The “snowcat” began to slide sideways after the star of “Avengers” used it to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow, and the handbrake, which was not on, would have stopped him, according to the edited incident report filed Friday.
The document was obtained by CNN on Tuesday (24) through a public records request.
“The Pistenbully snowplow began to slide, causing Renner to exit the vehicle without applying the emergency brake,” reads the report’s conclusion.
“Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed, based on our mechanical inspection, that the brake would prevent it from moving forward. When Renner tried to stop or deflect the Pistenbully to avoid injury to [seu sobrinho]he was pulled under the vehicle across the road and run over.”
The report also notes that the brake indicator light inside the vehicle’s cabin was not working and that “mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident”.
Renner was airlifted to the hospital, where he remained for more than two weeks, undergoing at least two surgeries and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
An emergency call log obtained by the CNN said Renner was “completely crushed under a large snowcat [veículo]” and he had “extreme [dificuldade] to breath”.

The incident occurred on New Year’s Day, when Renner towed his nephew’s pickup truck out of the actor’s driveway after it got stuck in the snow, he told investigators while hospitalized on Jan. 5, according to the incident report. .
After successfully towing the truck out of the snow and onto the street, Renner said the plow began “sliding sideways” and then “started rolling downhill.” At that point, Renner told investigators that he jumped out of the snowplow.

Renner, who plays the superhero Hawkeye in the Marvel movie and TV, says he broke more than 30 bones in the incident.
He posted a photo on Instagram last week with a caption that read: “I want to thank everyone for the messages and consideration. Much love and gratitude to all of you. Those 30+ bones will mend, grow stronger, as the love and bond with family and friends deepens.”
Disability is not believed to have been a factor in the incident, the report concludes.
