Josh O'Connor is the most stylish man of the moment: here's how he won the coveted record

«Details make perfection and perfection is not a detail». Leonardo da Vinci's phrase fits the style of Josh O'Connor who has taken the place of Timothée Chalamet in the hearts of fashionistas. Timmy doesn't want it, but to tempt the fashion system he is now the British actor, very successful and very popular (we saw him, very stylish in a Loewe suit, even at the last David di Donatello because he was the protagonist of The Chimera directed by Alice Rohrwacher).

If until recently, at least in Italy, the star was known above all for the role of the young Prince Charles in The Crown, at present Josh O'Connor, building on the success of Challengers by Luca Guadagnino, was crowned king of fashion. But how did he come to conquer this coveted scepter? What makes her outfits always so attractive?

Thirty-three years old on May 20, the promising actor, in addition to a particular charm, not shouted, almost shy, therefore magnetic, boasts first of all at his side stylist Harry Lambert, aka the man who whispered (and continues to whisper) about Harry Styles' wardrobe. Lambert, to be honest, adds salt to a dish-à-porter which, in the case of Josh O'Connor, is already rich in succulent ingredients such as verve and vitality.

Then, certainly, we should have had some signs of the actor's fashionable DNA since 2017, the year in which Loewe focused on him, at the time emerging and practically unknown, as new face for Loewe Men giving life to a partnership between the star and the Spanish fashion house which continues happily to this day.

Naturally designer Loewe we saw Josh O'Connor at the recent Met Gala where he definitely stood out for providing among the best interpretations of this year's theme, Garden of The Time: although at first glance it may have seemed that he was wearing a simple one black tailcoat with White shirtthe outfit was anything but basic.

The look presents, in fact, a series of unusual detailsplayful and surreal that did not go unnoticed, becoming viral on social media within a few minutes of its arrival on the red carpet of the event. For starters, the jacket's so-called dovetails are XXL, and come down to the floor. The real plus of the dress, however, were the accessories. On his feet Josh wore a pair of floral ankle boots presented within the Autumn/Winter 2024/2025 collection of the Spanish brand. Around his neck, however, a glitter shone candy-shaped silver micro bow tie.

After all, it's interesting to see a young actor always taking a step forward when it comes to stylistic experimentation. And here we return to Leonardo's phrase quoted at the beginning of the article: in fact his style, as far as Josh O'Connor is concerned, is really in the details. The same ones, many of them, that we find in looks chosen for the successful press tour of Challengers by Luca Guadagnino.

From Zendaya to John F. Kennedy Jr.: anatomy of a T-shirt that went viral

«I Told Ya» – I told you – written in huge letters on that short-sleeved t-shirt that you now see everywhere. It is indeed a reference to the film Challengers but its being viral is also thanks to the connection with a piece of American history and one of its most illustrious families

At the British premiere the actor opted for a seemingly traditional tuxedo, except for the writing «I Told Ya» printed on the shirt, which refers to the t-shirt worn in the film, for which Jonathan Anderson, Loewe's creative director, is the costume designer.

The screening in Los Angeles was, perhaps, the best moment of the tour in terms of style for Josh O'Connor who showed off a soft Double-breasted pinstripe suit with shirt sleeves in lime shade from the cuffs oversized which he wore with great ease and personality. Although they may seem banal, Anderson's clothes never seem obvious, which makes you forget how difficult they are to wear.

The fact that O'Connor manages to integrate these details into his wardrobe so seamlessly without making it seem like some sort of fashion joke is probably why he has emerged as the true champion of the press tour of Challengers. And that's also what makes it the perfect icon of 2024 by virtue of that unstudied but avant-garde style that the star is so good at bringing under the flash.

Not only by dressing the maison of which he is the face, but also other brands, often emerging (Acne Studios, Dunhill, SS Daley, Stefan Cook among others), the star always manages to give a unique touch to classic men's garments, from dresses to outerwear, in a perfect balance between casual and elegant. Josh O'Connor, in short, has managed to update the timeless codes of men's clothing. And all we want from him now is for him to look at us as he would look at a group of Loewe leaders.
