Kosovo: Demonstration of protest by Serbs for the wounding of two of their compatriots by a soldier

Thousands of Serbs demonstrated today Sunday (8/1) in the city of Sterpce in southern Kosovo in protest of the wounding of two young compatriots by an Albanian soldier.

On Friday (6/1), Christmas Eve for Orthodox Serbs, an off-duty member of the Kosovo Army’s special forces opened fire in his car, wounding an 11-year-old boy and his 21-year-old cousin. years.

The victims are hospitalized with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper and lower extremities.

The shootings were allegedly nationalistically motivated as the attacker knew they were Serbs as they were holding an oak branch, a symbol of family prosperity, which Serbs traditionally bring home on Christmas Eve.

The perpetrator was arrested and is being held while the prosecutor proposed his pre-trial detention.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti condemned the incident and assured that justice will be served. The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said that this is a manifestation of the violence and terror that Serbs in Kosovo live every day.
