Lolla: female presence is the largest in the festival’s history, but they are still a minority on stage

The tenth edition of Lollapalooza Brasil has almost 80 international and national shows, but less than half are women. Still, it is the largest female presence in the festival’s history.

For Francesca Brown Alterio, marketing director at Time For Fun, the company that organizes the event, reaching this mark is symbolic. “Having a diverse line-up is one of our main commitments, so we were happy to see Billie Eilish yesterday. [sexta, a Ludmilla hoje [sábado] and so many other powerful women on our stages”, he said.

Billie Eilish, Rosalía, Ludmilla, Kali Uchis, Pitty, Tássia Reis and Carol Biazin are some of the favorites. Also noteworthy is the first indigenous artist to perform at the festival: Brisa Flow.

During the show this Friday (24), the singer from Minas Gerais, daughter of Chilean artisans, celebrated the native peoples. “We’ve always been here, we’ll always be here,” she intoned at the start of the performance.

Billie Eilish, aged 20, was the headliner on Friday (24) and made a dramatic entrance with lights to the song “Bury a Friend”. It was her first performance in Brazil and has already made history with a record audience of 103,350 people.

Billie is one of the most celebrated singers of this generation, with an alternative pop that made her win seven statuettes at the Grammys and one at the Oscars.

Bárbara Pinheiro, 24, was one of the many women who attended Ludmilla’s show this Saturday (25). For her, it is necessary to increasingly consolidate the female presence on stage.

“I feel represented with a woman on stage. Women need to gain more and more visibility because this is the only way this space will be consolidated”, she said.

Other women performing at the festival are Melanie Martinez, Tove Lo, Anavitória, Alison Wonderland, Aurora, among other artists who make up the line-up for the three days of the festival.
