German airline Lufthansa will have to cancel 800 flights on Friday (2) at airports in Munich and Frankfurt due to a strike organized by the German pilots’ union, the company said on its website.
Employees are demanding a 5.5% salary increase through the end of the year and more compensation “above inflation” in 2023, Lufthansa says.
The company, which offered an additional €900, says the demands of pilots would increase the next two years’ employment costs for employees working in the cockpit of Lufthansa planes by 40%.
With no agreement, the union opted for an all-day strike on Friday, affecting scheduled flights and air freight operated by Lufthansa Cargo, a subsidiary of the company.
The union said in a statement on Wednesday that negotiations had failed because Lufthansa had not offered a better offer.
According to the company, more cancellations are possible for Saturday and Sunday. With information from Dow Jones Newswires.
