Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, along with Presidents Gustavo Petro of Colombia and Andrés Manuel López Obrador of Mexico, will hold a virtual meeting to analyze the crisis in Venezuela, the Colombian presidency told CNN this Monday (2).
Venezuela is facing a crisis after the July 28 presidential election, in which the electoral authority declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner without publishing details of the votes. The opposition alleges fraud.
According to the Colombian presidency, the foreign ministers of the three countries will also participate in the meeting, but there is still no set date for it to take place.
THE CNN contacted the foreign ministries of Mexico and Brazil for comment and is still awaiting a response.
In August, the governments of the three countries announced in a joint statement that they were willing to support dialogue and the “search for understanding” in Venezuela.
The statement came after a virtual meeting of the foreign ministers of the three countries, Brazilian Mauro Vieira, Colombian Luis Gilberto Murillo and Mexican Alicia Bárcena.
