A story that, once again, proves to be the pretext for investigating something else: the female universe, motherhood, the small differences that dot apparently similar creatures. Parallel Mothers, the film chosen to open the last Venice Film Festival, is not (only) the story of an impromptu friendship, between two women united by need. Above all, it is the search for an origin, for a primordial mechanism that is capable of explaining some of the overturning events of life.
Motherhood, in the film by Pedro Almodóvar, in cinemas from 28 October.
In the film, of which the first official trailer was released, Penelope Cruz e Milena Smith they have different ages and needs. One is now close to -anta, the other has not yet turned eighteen. They are women at the antipodes, for biological reasons rather than human ones. But a bond unites them: a hospital room, the birth of a child, joy and fear. Janis and Ana, as Almodóvar renamed them in Parallel Mothers, they are similar because they are mothers, and the film tells of their sudden friendship, where fate with its immense turns will be able to shuffle papers that it was believed could not be more disordered.
