Man goes without a date for 4 years and reports dating app to Procon

A man reported Tinder services to Procon-RS in October, after giving up making dates through dating apps. The platform has until Thursday (7) to respond to the consumer protection agency.

The beginning of the “date” saga began in 2020, when a man from Porto Alegre decided to join one of the biggest dating apps. The experience, which does not require any initial investment, was leveraged.

According to the information, the man decided to purchase paid plans from the platform, which offers different types of offers to increase the exposure of his profile among other users.

However, after four years of being unable to arrange any appointment, he decided to file a complaint with the consumer protection and inspection body.

Unpublished complaint

THE CNN spoke with the executive director of Procon in Porto Alegre, who told him about the “unprecedented” case. According to Rafael Gonçalves, complaints about the platform are not uncommon, but this type of “denouncement” was something new.

“We have other complaints about the app, but they are always related to cancellations or undue charges, but this one had the peculiarity of being about meetings”, pondered Rafael Gonçalves.

The man allegedly complained about the effectiveness of the services provided by the application. The user alleges that the people who appeared on his timeline were always the same, in addition to the presence of some fake profiles, according to the complaint.

“He started to think that since he hadn’t been able to get in touch with someone, get a meeting, he started to question the boosting service provided”, explains Rafael.

Analysis of justifications

According to Procon-RS, the platform has until Thursday to respond to the complaint and, subsequently, prove that the boosting services were provided as per the offer.

The agency initially acts as an intermediary in communication between the parties, evaluating and weighing the reasons and justifications of both, and then finding what Rafael calls “harmonization” between interests.

If there is no “agreement” between the parties, the consumer can take the case to court, in the Small Claims Court and request a civil action.

THE CNN try to contact Tinder to get a position on the company.
