March will be hot and muggy with risk of heat wave and cyclone, says forecast

The month of March will be predominantly hot and muggy in all regions of the country, according to the ClimaTempo forecast. There is a risk of new heat waves in the South region, mainly in the west of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul, and in the west of São Paulo. There is a forecast of a maximum of four cold fronts during the month, which should not cause a drop in temperatures. The cold air, of polar origin, is expected to pass along the southern and southeastern coast of Brazil — without being able to advance into the interior of Brazil.

Only at the end of the month, there is a greater chance of cold weather entering the country in the interior of the southern region and part of the southeast. In these areas, the cold front should bring autumn air, with slightly cold nights.

There is a moderate risk of extreme rainfall on the coast of Paraná, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, due to the chance that an intense low atmospheric pressure, formed by the cold front, will transform into a cyclone.

March waters

Popularly known for its rains, March should record frequent and voluminous precipitation. The action of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ZCI) should guarantee the peak of the rainy season in most areas of the northern region and on the north coast of the northeast. Rainfall may be reduced in the regions by El Niño, which is expected to last for the next few months.

According to ClimaTempo, in the southeast and central west there are still storms, typical of heat, but precipitation averages should naturally be lower than in January or February.

In the south of the country, rains should be irregular and more frequent in the second half of the month. The states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina may have longer breaks in rain, points out ClimaTempo.
