The Ministry of Health expanded, this Friday (21), the target audience for vaccination against dengue. The measure aims to rearrange the application of doses that are due to expire, between June 30 and July 31 of this year.
The ministry informed, in a note, that it maintains the recommendation for vaccination against dengue in the age group of 10 to 14 years of age. However, if the municipality has doses of dengue vaccine (attenuated) that are about to expire, some guidelines must be followed.
Relocation
States that have municipalities that have not yet received the dengue vaccine (attenuated) should preferably relocate these doses that are about to expire to these territories.
In states with all municipalities covered, these doses can be applied to people aged 6 to 16 years old, as recommended by the World Health Organization.
Only if the two previous procedures are not sufficient, the strategy can be expanded up to the age limit specified in the dengue vaccine leaflet (attenuated), which ranges from 4 to 59 years 11 months and 29 days of age, depending on availability.
Doses
The Ministry of Health reported that 5.2 million doses were purchased and another 1.3 million were donated from the laboratory, which had a shorter expiration date and were delivered before the first batches were purchased.
The technical note clarifies that donations of such doses were suggested considering the unavailability of doses with a minimum expiration date for purchase.
