Forty-three migrants, including three babies and 14 women, were killed Sunday when their boat sank off Tarfaya in southern Morocco, according to the Spanish non-governmental organization Caminando Fronteras. .
Most of the migrants came from sub-Saharan Africa. Only ten were rescued.
“The ten survivors, including six women, called for help at 4 in the morning (Sunday) and continued to communicate until 6 (…). It took several hours for the (Moroccan) authorities to locate them and rescue them. “off Tarfaya,” said a spokesman for the Spanish NGO.
The migrants were trying to reach the Canary Islands, which are about 100 kilometers from Tarfaya.
