“Mufasa: The Lion King”: see the first reactions to Disney’s new live-action film

The first showing of “Mufasa: The Lion King” was held in Los Angeles, California, in the United States. Disney promoted a preview event in the city and brought together several celebrities and journalists on Monday (9). The film arrives in Brazilian cinemas on the day December 19 .

Names like Beyoncé and Jay-Z were present to honor their daughter, Blue Ivy, who voices one of the characters. The person responsible for the film’s soundtrack, Lin-Manuel Miranda, was also at the scene. Furthermore, Brazilian singer Iza walked the red carpet.

THE live-action tells Mufasa’s origin story Simba’s father from “The Lion King”, that is, it is set years before the original film. Told through flashbacks, the story presents the lion as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a Taka – the heir to a royal lineage.

I’ll be the first to admit that a prequel to ‘The Lion King’ wasn’t something I asked for, but the animation is amazing, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s songs are catchy, and the vocal performances make ‘Mufasa’ – dare I say it – better than the 2019 version of The Lion King . The entire cast is fantastic and Aaron Pierre is perfect as young Mufasa. I should also mention how much better the animals emote in this one compared to the 2019 version. It’s a notable improvement.”

“My only criticism is that the Timon and Pumbaa’s levity felt a little jarring in relation to the overall story (with the exception of one particularly hilarious sequence they share with Scar that I won’t spoil). Ultimately, Mufasa is a much better prequel than I was expecting.”

  • John Nguyen Nerd Reactor reviewer

“’Mufasa’ is a fantastic prequel that far surpasses the first photorealistic ‘The Lion King’ film with an original and engaging story, better facial animation and fun songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It fits very well with the story of the previous film and you can see how it all started .”

  • Jazz Tangcay editor of Variety

“’Mufasa: The Lion King’ is the perfect prequel. So beautifully crafted. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s songs and Nicholas Britell’s score are absolutely divine and music to the ears. Pure joy.”

  • Dana Abercrombie Film Independent review

“’Mufasa’ left me speechless. It’s a story that deserves to be told and that makes you question what destiny is. Expertly written and crafted, it adds to ‘The Lion King’ franchise, adding more dimension to the characters we love and thought we knew. The visual effects are amazing.”
