Emotion is waking up with theIsola Comacina in the eyeon a beautiful sunny day, with the breeze that makes the Lake Como. And then the scent of a new day that comes through the window as you savor that feeling of being in the only place you want to be. Here is the good morning al MUSA Lake Comothe new address in Sala Comacina to mark for the next romantic weekend: a design boutique hotel overlooking the only island of the Lario.
The history of the Muse
The regulars know the place well: it was called Tavern Bleuit was a three-star hotel and had a restaurant where the lakes told us they came to eat the best risotto with perch of the whole province. The Muse promises to keep faith with that reputation as an excellent place to eat (and drink) but by raising the stakes a lot, because otherwise everything has changed: now it is a five star luxuryreborn after a massive restructuring commissioned by Australian entrepreneurs Claire and Mitchell Gray. Like many, they fell madly in love with the lake and transformed what should have been their holiday home into a new reference point for the holidays of others. And then the hotel has also added a villa, in Tremezzina, with six bedrooms, for those looking for even more privacy and exclusivity.
Thus was born the Musa: a unique place for the position, for thevibe that is informal and welcoming thanks to a team of very young and enthusiastic professionals who want to bring a touch of freshness to the classic hotel hospitality of the Lario, and which is all new in the concept.
Rooms
First of all because the Muse is a very small hotel (rarity on the lake among luxury hotels) with just 12 rooms, and hyper-contemporary in style. The signature for the interior is from the studio Claudia Kempen Concept who has created clean, fluid environments, carefully selecting materials and colors, such as the light oak wood of the floors that is paired with furniture and accessories between black and bronze in a palette with fabrics. Always different mixes, in the rooms as well as for the spaces of the hotel, which are always full of light with large windows that run around it that seem to make you float on the lake.
In short, the perfect setting for a romantic getaway that can also be spent lying around one here beautiful panoramic swimming pooltrying wellness treatments in a small and cozy spa, and giving it a try food and wine experiences which in reality are worth the trip even on their own because the bar and restaurant are the flagships of the Musa and one of the (many) reasons why you will want to return.
The Gaia Bar and the Roteo Restaurant
If you have little time and you are on the lake even just for a trip out of town, first of all go for a cocktail at the Gaia Bar: on their beautiful veranda at sunset there is live music and you can taste the creations of Edoardo Felsinia barmanager who has traveled the world to then return to Como and bring his tailored cocktails (along with his smile). Electrawhat we tasted is among the signature: Seedlip Spice, Honey, Lime, Cranberry Juice, with very low alcohol content and decidedly delicate in taste.
If you have more time, stay at the Musa just to try one of the best dinners you have ever had. Barely 45 seats (and also open to outsiders) the Roteo Restaurant del Musa is a fine dining restaurant where Robert Moretti and Matteo Corridori, young people from Como with a path in kitchens of the caliber of 3 Michelin-starred Hélène Darroze at the Connaught and the Bulgari Hotel in Dubai led by Niko Romitothey brought their experience trying to enhance local specialties but not only.
They promised us a gourmet experience we would remember, and they did. They made us taste a 9-course menu in a crescendo of flavors: an intense evening, which in the idea of the dishes, in the presentation, in the search for ingredients, showed us all their enthusiasm, as well as their skill. What particularly impressed us were the apparently simpler preparations. Examples? Beluga Lentils: they come in a closed golden box, like the caviar one, and when you open them those tiny black balls look just like sturgeon eggs. But yes, they are lentils, they are sublime, and they cover layers of sweet pepper, ginger and ricotta to savor one little spoon after another.
And then, just not to dwell on mentioning all the others, we greatly appreciated pike perca a la Wellington accompanied – in the same sheet – by Taggiasca olives, leeks, courgettes and beurre blanc. Flawless. For each course, as befits, excellent glasses between Barolo, Champagne, Gewürztraminer, part of a rich but selected wine list in which, together with renowned producers, there are small wine artisans who create wonders.
The Lario, and the Comacina
Meanwhile, the lake is always in the background with the Comacina island one step away, and from the Musa it can be reached in an instant thanks to the private pier. A breath and from the hotel of dreams you arrive in the heart of the island of dreams, to discover its history and its art, among its churches which are among the best preserved of the Middle Ages, the houses for artists that Pietro Lingeri built in the 40s inspired by the holiday home of Le Corbusier, its nature among olive trees, lime trees, laurels, mulberries that accompany you on a journey that also gives you some the best views of the lake. All this can be done in just one weekend: the new romantic weekend for which we can’t wait to go back to the lake.
