The American Embassy in Turkey issued on Monday (30/1) a relevant announcement warning Americans of possible attacks against churches, synagogues and diplomatic missions in Constantinople.

This is the second such warning to be issued in four days, following the Koran burning incidents in Europe.

In an updated security warning, the US embassy said “possible imminent terrorist retaliatory attacks” could take place in areas frequented by Westerners, particularly the Istanbul districts of Beyoglu, Galata, Taksim and Istiklal.

The Turkish authorities are conducting investigations, the warning added, as reported by the Athens News Agency.

On Friday (27/1), embassies in Ankara, including those of the US, Germany, France and Italy, issued security warnings about possible retaliatory attacks against places of worship, following separate incidents in Sweden, the Netherlands and Denmark during which the Koran was burned.

On Saturday (29/1) h Turkey it also warned its citizens of “possible Islamophobic, xenophobic and racist attacks” in the United States and Europe.
