Poland will next week sign a contract to buy K2 tanks, K9 howitzers and three squadrons of FA-50 aircraft from South Korea, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blazak announced today.
“Next week we are signing the agreements,” he said on his Twitter account.
According to the wPolityce website, the contract concerns the delivery of 48 FA-50 fighter jets, the first of 180 K2 tanks (also called “Black Panthers”) that Warsaw will purchase in total, as well as an unspecified number of howitzers.
The first howitzers and tanks will be delivered by the end of the year and the aircraft in 2023, according to the minister who gave no further details. “We understand the challenges Poland is facing due to the war in Ukraine and Putin’s aggressive policy (…) Our goal is to strengthen the Polish army as much as possible,” he explained while speaking to reporters. “We support Ukraine because it is fighting for us, but we also need to strengthen our own defense capabilities,” he added.
