The Civil Police of Bahia arrested, this Friday (13), one of the suspects involved in the escape of 16 inmates from the Eunápolis Penal Complex, in the extreme south of Bahia, which occurred on Thursday night (12).
According to the police, in testimony, the suspect confessed to direct participation in the action carried out by a heavily armed group. To the police, the man revealed that he would receive the amount of R$5,000 for the crime.
In a press release, the Civil Police reported that the suspect was equipped with a rifle for the attack.
After the action, the weapons would be collected by the criminal organization’s companions, according to the agreement. Despite having shared some details, the man refused to reveal the names of the other members of the group.
A police investigation has been launched, while teams from the Civil and Military Police continue efforts to locate suspects and recapture the fugitives.
Attack to escape
On Thursday night (12), 16 inmates managed to escape from the Eunápolis Penal Complex, in the extreme south of Bahia, after an armed attack on the unit.
The attack was reportedly planned to rescue Edinaldo Pereira Souza, known as “Dada”, leader of a criminal faction, and 15 other inmates linked to the same organization.
The attack occurred around 11pm yesterday, when the criminals provoked an intense exchange of fire with security agents.
During the confrontation, they managed to open two cells, allowing the inmates to escape.
According to the Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration and Resocialization (SEAP), Reviver, the company responsible for co-management of the unit and security at the location, called the police immediately after the invasion, but there was not enough time for an effective intervention, which made the escape possible. of inmates.
