Police conclude inquiry and say USP student is guilty of embezzlement

The Civil Police completed the investigation into the embezzlement of BRL 927 million by the 106th class of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of São Paulo (USP).

In the report sent to the São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office, student Alicia Muller was found guilty of embezzlement on nine occasions, referring to transfers made to her personal account.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office must take a position by next Thursday (2nd), and may file a complaint, add crimes, ask for more evidence or close the case.

If the complaint is filed, Alicia Muller could be sentenced to up to 36 years in prison. As the student has no criminal record, investigators believe that it is unlikely that she will be sentenced to serve the full term possible, probably having to pay a fine for the crime committed.

In another investigation, Alicia responds for money laundering and embezzlement, for not having paid R$ 193,000 to a São Paulo lottery.

THE CNN got in touch with the defense of Alicia Muller and awaits a position.
