Pope Francis expressed “his deepest sadness” by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday, tweeted Ukraine’s embassy to the Holy See (Vatican).
“Today Pope Francis had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Holy Father expressed his deepest regret for the tragic events that are taking place in our country,” according to the embassy.
In a tweet, Zelensky said he thanked the Pope for his prayers, adding that “the Ukrainian people feel His Holiness’s spiritual support.”
