O River Festival announced this Thursday (29) the international schedule of this year’s edition, which officially starts on the 6th and continues until October 15th.
Among the highlights, the exhibition of award-winning films at festivals in Berlin, Venice, Toronto and Cannes and also feature films rated for the Oscars 2023 plus a selection of horror movies.
The most awaited are “Argentina, 1985”, nominated in the pre-selection to compete for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, with Ricardo Darín, and which portrays the Argentine military dictatorship; “My Policeman” by Michael Grandage and starring Harry Styles; and the awardees “Nanny” which received the Grand Jury Prize at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, and “Holy Spider” with actress Zar Amir-Ebrahimi, winner of the best actress award at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
Among the horror films, the highlight is “Piggy”, by Carlota Pereda; “The Menu”, by Mark Mylod with Ralph Fiennes, and “Halloween Ends”, by David Gordon Green.
The tributes go to two important films in Brazilian cinema, among them “O Pagador de Promessas”, by Anselmo Duarte, and “Assalto ao Tren Pador”, by Roberto Farias, which will complete 60 years in 2022.
Director Breno Silveira, who died in May at the age of 58, will also be trumpeted with the screening of “Dois Filhos de Francisco”.
The sessions take place in several places in the city, including the Odeon – Luiz Severiano Ribeiro Cultural Center, in Cinelândia, and outdoor sessions at Copacabana Beach. On the Olympic Boulevard, films will be shown outdoors with free admission starting this Thursday (29), including “La La Land”, “Tainá – Uma Aventura na Amazônia” and “Encanto”, by Disney.
