Robert Downey Sr., the director of the countercultural satirical film Putney Swope and father of actor Robert Downey Jr., passed away today in New York City at the age of 85 after a long battle with Parkinson’s.
Best known for his groundbreaking films such as Greaser’s Palace and have participated as an actor in Boogie Nights Y Magnolia, Downey Sr. was one of the most respected filmmakers in Hollywood for his distinctive work and impeccable career.

In recent years, Downey Sr. worked in the comedy Tower Heist 2011 and made an appearance on the comedy show Saturday Night Live in 2015. Married three times, the actor found love in Rosemary Rogers, whom he married in 1998.
