The former president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia (PSDB), will be responsible for coordinating the government program of João Doria (PSDB) in the candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic.
The licensed federal deputy accepted the invitation made by the governor of São Paulo last Tuesday (18).
“I thank João Doria for the invitation. Politicians need to understand that it is very important that we participate in the construction of our candidates’ programs”, declared Maia, in a press release.
Doria said that he considers “fundamental” to strengthen his project the “experience of Rodrigo Maia, his brilliant performance as secretary of Strategic Actions and his political skills”.
According to the statement, which was distributed by Doria’s team, the governor and Maia have already defined three main axes for the construction of the toucan government program:
- “Strengthening Democracy”;
- “Country’s commitment to the environment”;
- “Adoption of a new tax regime”.
“Themes such as gender inequality, racism and the fight against hunger will play a central role in the agenda led by Maia,” the statement reads.
The licensed deputy is part of the group of assistants closest to Doria. In August 2021, Maia exchanged her position in the Legislature for the chair of the Secretariat of Strategic Projects and Actions of the government of São Paulo.
According to Doria’s team, Maia’s current role is to “give agility” to the privatization projects underway in São Paulo, in addition to signing public-private partnerships and promoting concessions to the private sector.
Doria’s candidacy
The governor of São Paulo, João Doria, won the primaries and was chosen, on November 27 of last year, as the PSDB candidate to run for the Presidency of the Republic in the 2022 elections.
Doria won 53.99% of approximately 30,000 votes, beating Eduardo Leite, governor of Rio Grande do Sul, with 44.66% and Arthur Virgílio, former mayor of Manaus, with 1.35% after an intense and tumultuous internal dispute.
