Russian President Vladimir Putin uses the war in Ukraine to be able to negotiate demands in the diplomatic field, said Bernardo Wahl, professor of International Relations at FESPSP, this Saturday (5).
“Here I bring the classic thinker of the phenomenon of war, Carl von Clausewitz, a general of the Kingdom of Prussia, when he talks about the rational calculation of war. Russia is making a rational calculation in the use of force. So maybe that helps explain why the Russian advance isn’t going as fast,” Wahl said.
For the expert, Moscow is slowly advancing on Ukrainian territory precisely because it is bargaining in the diplomatic field.
“If you get the diplomatic achievements I mentioned without having to go too far militarily, great. “If it doesn’t, then it will advance more militarily and it can increase the use of force.”
