School registrations 2023/2024: here’s how to do it for elementary, middle and high schools

School registrations 2023/2024: it starts on Monday 9 January. Applications, made using the online procedure, can be submitted from 8 on January 9 to 8 on Monday 30 January on the dedicated page Online registrations of the Ministry of Education.

Everything is done online but you don’t need to rush. Whoever sends the application first does not have a guaranteed place. The choice of institution is personal, usually linked to proximity to home for middle and elementary schools and more to the orientation of the students for upper secondary schools.

Online enrollment is mandatory for state schools and optional for private schools. They also concern the education and training courses of the regional vocational training centers of the regions that have adhered to the procedure.

Registration

As early as December 19, it was possible to qualify and it can still be done. To access the Service you must have a digital identity: SPID (Public Digital Identity System), CIE (Electronic Identity Card), eIDAS (electronic IDentification Authentication and Signature). It must be a parent or whoever has parental responsibility to apply for authorization.

Times and schools

From 8 am on Monday 9 January to 8 pm on Monday 30 is the time for enrollment in the first year from elementary to high school for the 2023/2024 school year. Enrollments are those in the initial classes of each level, from primary, the old elementary, to secondary, middle and high school.

Primary

You can enroll in the first class of primary school i children who turn 6 by 31 December 2023. Children who turn 6 by 30 April 2024 can also enroll. The first choice is indicated as a school and then a maximum of two other institutions. There are 27 teaching hours a week, even for those who do full-time, in school until 4.30 pm, and not the module, leaving at 2 pm, three days a week.

Medium

Officially it is the lower secondary school. After the first institute chosen, two more can be added. For the averages you can ask for 30 or 36 hours, 5 or 6 days a week where there are these options.

Superior

The application is submitted to only one secondary school and allows you to indicate, alternatively, up to a maximum of two other institutions of your liking in addition to the chosen one. From middle school, the family receives an indicative judgment for enrollment. The school could ask for it together with the seventh grade report card. It is necessary to indicate the precise field of study if there are several in that institute, any enhancements and the choice of languages.

For all orders and levels of school serves the up-to-date and recent certification in case of a student with special educational needs. Always for everyone it is necessary to choose the teaching of the Catholic religion or the alternative.

For musical middle schools and musical and dance high schools, enrollment is subject to passing a test on the skills of the candidate. For high schools after the eighth grade exams, enrollment is completed by presenting the Licencia Media certificate and the Competence certificate to the secretariat.

Signing up

It is done only online through the website of the Ministry of Education which has a special page Registrations. The student’s data must be entered: tax code, name and surname, date of birth, residence. Then the preference for the institute is expressed. For each boy, only one question can be asked, which is only needed for the first year. For subsequent ones, enrollment is automatic unless you decide to change schools. One institute of preference is indicated and then two if there is no place in the first. The procedure can be interrupted and resumed without losing the entered data.

The secretariats schools are available to activate the procedure and fill in the application form for those without a PC or connection. Just one registration to have access to the different registration pages if you have multiple children.

Compilation

You enter the page with your credentials and click on: submit new application for registration. You are asked to indicate the pupil’s data with indications of the schools in order of priority and their identification code. The application can be checked, viewed and saved in pdf format, before sending it electronically.

Confirmation

A receipt of the sending will arrive via e-mail and, subsequently, also the updates of the application process. The path of the application can also be followed through the Registrations website and with a dedicated app of the ministry.

Schools and Codes

On the ministry website there is the section Search for your school where the schools are listed by address, type, region. Each school inserts in its own form the criteria for accepting the application and possibly those for priority, for example siblings in the same school or proximity according to the roadmap.

For high schools, the most common criteria are: catchment area, average grades in the seventh grade report card, indicative judgment, conduct grade, entry test. The form also contains the school’s contact details for further information, the number of classes present and the list of teachers and the Self-Assessment Report of each institution can be consulted.

Corrections

Corrections can be made, but not through the site. Changes can be made by contacting directly the first chosen school which is the one to which the form arrives.

Completion

When enrollment is closed, the schools evaluate the applications and create the ranking of enrolled students. If the application has been accepted by the first indicated school, confirmation arrives via e-mail, otherwise the sorting to one of the other indicated hypotheses is communicated and any confirmation then arrives from these.

Application status

The family receives all updates on the status of the application by e-mail until the confirmation of final acceptance. The status of the application can be: Submitted, i.e. it has been delivered to the first school, which, after the closure of enrollments, will begin to evaluate it together with all the other applications received; Returned to the family (only during the enrollment period), when the school returns the already submitted application to the family (either at the request of the family itself or on the school’s initiative) to integrate some missing information. A returned application, after modifications, must be resubmitted. Or it can be accepted, when the application is accepted by the school, then cleared, when it is forwarded to the alternative school.

Other schools

Online registrations also concern the education and training courses of the Regional Vocational Training Centers for the participating regions. It remains optional for private schools to join the online enrollment system.
