The studio that started filming the biopic of singer Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011 at the age of 27, released the first image of actress Marisa Abela, characterized as the artist. The production, which will be called “Back To Black”, the name of the singer’s second album, has the British Sam Taylor-Johnson in the direction. In the image, the interpreter appears with her hair in a retro hairstyle, one of the singer’s characteristics.
“With cameras rolling from next week, we are thrilled to release this first look at rising star Marisa Abela as Amy,” said Studio Canal Internacional’s post.
The filmmaker is known for directing the first film “Fifty Shades of Grey”, the drama “A Million Little Pieces”, as well as episodes of the television series “Gypsy” and “Solos”.
The film will show the life and music of the six-time winner of the Grammy who died of alcohol intoxication at her north London home on July 23, 2011. The artist struggled with drinking and drug problems for much of her career.
Considered one of the most talented singers of her generation with hits like “Rehab” and “Back to Black”, Winehouse’s untimely death rocked the music world.
Several documentaries about her have been made, the most recent narrated by her mother and shown on the British BBC in 2021 to mark 10 years of the singer’s death.
