Colombian superstar Shakira reached an agreement in a tax evasion case with Spanish authorities, and avoided a trial that was scheduled to begin this Monday (20).
At the beginning of the hearing, the judge announced a last-minute agreement presented by all parties to avoid trial for tax evasion.
Shakira was asked by the judge if she was aware of the agreement and the latest fines agreed, to which the singer replied yes.
A statement released by the singer’s communications team shortly afterwards announced that her lawyers had reached an agreement to settle a tax case covering the years between 2012 and 2014.
Shakira said in a statement that she “was ready to face trial and defend my innocence,” but came “to the conclusion that it is not a triumph to win if the price is that (they) steal so many years of life.”
