Taylor Swift fans raise R$180,000 in campaign for projection on Christ

Fans of North American singer Taylor Swift reached their goal and donated, in less than 24 hours, more than R$180,000 to the Archdiocesan Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro. The donations were made to enable the projection — in one of the seven wonders of the world — of a welcome message to the artist. Last night (16), Christ the Redeemer received the tribute.

The campaign began after the swifties, as the blonde’s fans are known, went to the networks of Father Omar, rector of the Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer, and the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes (PSD), asking for the tribute to be paid to mark the singer’s first tour in Brazil.

The priest decided to accept the request, but proposed that fans make donations to collect more than 20 thousand units of panettone and mineral water to help people in situations of vulnerability and social exclusion. “This way, let’s help quench our thirst in the heat in Rio de Janeiro and also guarantee a happier Christmas for those who have less,” says a message published by the Archdiocese.

The goal was reached in just under 24 hours. In the early hours of this Friday (17th), the panettone and water bottles began to be distributed by the Sanctuary team to three of the singer’s fans at points in the center of Rio.

According to the Archdiocese, after requests, the campaign remains open for more donations until Sunday (19), when World Day of the Poor, established by Pope Francis, is celebrated.

“The Eras Tour” arrives in Brazil this Friday (17th), with a presentation in Rio de Janeiro, at Engenhão. The singer also sings in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday (18) and Sunday (19), with all performances sold out. Afterwards, she will head to São Paulo, for shows at Allianz Parque on the 24th, 25th and 26th of November.
