The Memphis Police Department (state Tennesseemiddle eastern USA) announced Wednesday that it had arrested a 19-year-old African-American suspect in several shootings, at least one of which was broadcast live on Facebook, reversing an earlier order for residents to seek safe shelter where they were.
“Suspect taken into custody,” Memphis police said on Twitter, adding that the order to “shelter where you are has been issued.”
It is unclear if there were any deaths or injuries in the incidents. Local television station ABC24 reported one death, but police have not linked it to the suspect.
Earlier, the police warned that he was driving armed and dangerous young man attributing attacks to him. “We are receiving information that he is rebroadcasting his actions through Facebook,” he added.
In a short video, the young man is shown cursing, opening the shop door and shooting twice at the first person he sees. Reuters news agency was unable to verify the authenticity of the material.
