The composer, musician and comedian Juca Chaves dies at the age of 84

The composer, musician and comedian Juca Chaves died on Saturday night (25), aged 84.

The artist, who was at Hospital São Rafael, in Salvador, will be cremated at the Parque Bosque da Paz cemetery. According to the hospital, he had respiratory complications.

“Hospital São Rafael regrets the death of the patient Juca Chaves on Saturday night (25) due to complications from respiratory problems and sympathizes with his family and friends for this irreparable loss”, says the institution’s note.

Born in 1938, Juca Chaves is from Rio de Janeiro, but lived in the capital of Bahia. With an erudite background, he began his career in music in the late 1950s. The artist is responsible for the song “Presidente bossa-nova”, which made reference to President Juscelino Kubitschek.

Juca Chaves is one of the great representatives of the modinha style. A critic of the military dictatorship, he performed several shows during the regime, with a sense of humor and fads. The height of his career was in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, when he released dozens of records.
