Intel recently introduced and launched the high-performance mobile Tiger Lake-H45 processors with six and eight cores. And today we will find out what the flagship CPU Core i9-11980HK is capable of compared to its predecessors and AMD processors.

Recall that the Core i9-11980HK contains eight cores with Hyper-Threading support and operates at frequencies of 3.3-5.0 GHz with a TDP of 45-65 W. He replaced the Core i9-10980HK, which, with similar parameters, is technologically a very old processor, since in fact it differs little from the Core i9-9980HK, relying on both a 14-nanometer process technology and a slightly modified Skylake architecture.
As a result, the Core i9-11980HK is not only the most modern mobile Intel processor, but also the first really new CPU of this class of the company in many years. And the first Core processor in several years, in theory capable of competing with older mobile Ryzen.

As you can see, the Core i9-11980HK really turned out to be very productive. In games, it bypasses its predecessor by an average of only 3%, but still in many projects the gain exceeds 7%. And these are just games. In applications, the novelty is not only always faster, but also the difference is often at least 10%, sometimes exceeding 20%. And this is with the same number of cores, TDP and lower frequencies.

Comparison with the brand new Core i7-11800H standing one step below shows that it does not always make sense to overpay. Well, the top-end Ryzen 9 5900HX is just a litmus test. When comparing, it is clearly seen that with an average of very similar performance, it is necessary, as always, to look at specific applications. Yes, Intel got a very fast processor, but AMD had several years of head start, so as a result, in resource-intensive applications that can load all the cores of modern CPUs, the AMD flagship turns out to be 8-15% faster.
In the end, we can say that the new Tiger Lake-H45 really succeeded. They are significantly faster than their predecessors and are generally able to compete with similar Ryzen CPUs, albeit with a number of reservations. Unless prices, as usual, are higher in the case of Intel processors, but in the mobile segment they have to be compared indirectly.
