The coronavirus hits the unvaccinated elderly a lot

The unvaccinated elderly die from the disease caused by the new coronavirus in an “incredibly high” proportion, according to an article published today in The Atlantic magazine.

By 2022, three-quarters of patients with COVID-19 complications were 65 years of age or older.

93% of the patients who died were over 50 years old, adds the magazine, citing data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the main federal public health service.

Low vaccination rate

The US not only has a lower rate vaccination of the elderly, but also more poor health coverage for this age group, the magazine emphasizes. In Britain, for example, 96% of people over 65 in the US have been fully vaccinated, up from 88.5%.

“Our vaccination and booster rates for people over the age of 60 and 65 are alarmingly low and put a lot of people (…) at risk of serious illness, hospitalization and death,” Eric told the Atlantic. Topol, director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute. Described as one of the biggest “disappointments” in terms of US performance, this figure was transmitted by APE-MPE, citing Xinhua.
