There is an increasing trend in applications for membership in the out-of-court mechanism

As of December, 4,451 applications have been submitted for inclusion in the extrajudicial mechanism, as Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said at a recent event of the Panhellenic Association of Accountants (PAELO), noting that there is an increasing trend in applications.

This is stated in an announcement of the union for the event on: “The course of out-of-court settlement and the 240 installments in 2022” to which the special secretary of Private Debt Marialena Athanasopoulou was invited while the event was addressed by the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras.

As mentioned in the announcement, Mr. Staikouras, among other things, noted the effort being made to optimally deal with private debt despite the very difficult conditions of the last two years.

He referred to the fact that the 468 settlement proposals are a positive writing sample, where 205 debtors have accepted the settlement and added that there is an increasing trend for submitting claims since December, after 4,451 applications have been submitted.

Ms. Athanasopoulou stated, among other things, that Greece has received praise from the EU due to the institutional framework of the out-of-court settlement, stressed that there is an increase in integration in the out-of-court mechanism since December 2021 and added that most requests come from households and mainly concern bank debts.
