Protesters marched on Saturday (1) in Paris demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, as the conflict in the region is about to enter its eighth month.
Around 15,000 protesters joined in a march from Republic Square towards Gambetta Square, in eastern Paris, in the rain.
Pro-Palestinian marches have been held in Paris for several days, since the launch of an Israeli offensive in Rafah that caused casualties and displaced more than a million Palestinians who were refugees in the territory.
Israel said on Saturday that the Gaza war would not end as long as Hamas maintained power, raising questions of timing and interpretation about a truce offer that US President Joe Biden presented and which the Islamic militant group said that sees “positively”.
Biden said Friday that Israel has proposed a deal involving an initial six-week ceasefire with a partial Israeli military withdrawal and the release of some hostages while “a permanent end to hostilities” is negotiated through mediators.
More than 36,379 Palestinians have been confirmed dead and 82,407 injured in the Israeli military offensive in Gaza since October 7, the Gaza Ministry of Health said in a statement on Saturday (1).
