US 'concerned' about deplorable conditions of detention of Palestinian prisoners in Israel – They asked for an investigation

The US is asking Israel to investigate the detention conditions of Palestinian prisoners at a military base following a CNN report. Based on information provided to it by Israeli public interest witnesses, the American television network broadcast a report last week on the Sade Teiman base in the Negev desert in southern Israel. “We are concerned (about the allegations) and are looking into them, as well as other allegations of abuse against Palestinian prisoners,” State Department spokesman Vedant Patel told reporters. The US has stressed to Israel that it has an “obligation to conduct a thorough investigation” into allegations of violations of international humanitarian law, he continued. “We always say clearly and consistently that all countries, including Israel, must treat all prisoners humanely, with dignity and as defined by international law,” Vedant Patel also told the press.
