US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin this Sunday (15) “reiterated the country’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and security assistance efforts” with Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov.
He even provided an update on his call with his Russian counterpart, according to the US Department of Defense.
Austin spoke with Reznikov “to discuss the battlefield situation and Ukraine’s capability needs,” according to a departmental reading.
He also conveyed to the Ukrainian minister his call with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Friday, “in which (Austin) called for an immediate end to the conflict in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication.”
“Secretary Austin reiterated the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and security assistance efforts to bolster Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian aggression,” the reading concludes, adding that the two pledged to remain in contact.
