US First Lady says Biden will run for election and reinforces support for candidacy

US First Lady Jill Biden has made a public statement in support of her husband, President Joe Biden, stressing that he will run for re-election.

“As Commander-in-Chief, President Biden wakes up every morning ready to get to work for you. That’s what this election is all about: you,” the first lady said on Monday (8).

Jill Biden remains one of her husband’s most vocal supporters and made the comments during a “Veterans and Military Families with Biden-Harris” campaign rally in Wilmington, North Carolina — the first of three battleground states she is visiting on Monday.

The first lady is also expected to make stops in Florida and Georgia.

“Despite all the talk about this race, Joe has made it clear he is in,” she said to chants of “four more years” from the crowd.

Jill Biden added: “That’s the decision he made. And just as he’s always been supportive of my career, I’m in too.”

The first lady also stressed to the crowd that they cannot “take anything for granted.”

“We must confront this moment as if our freedoms are at stake – because they are. And as if the future of America’s leadership in the world is at stake – because it is. As if our democracy is at stake – because it is,” he concluded.
