The State Department issued a statement announcing that it had added to the “blacklist” for attacks against religious freedom the Russian one salaried Wagner group.
The foreign minister of USA Anthony Blinken said there were findings that raised “particular concern” about her modus operandi.
In fact, Cuba and Nicaragua are also added to this list “for committing particularly serious violations of religious freedom or for tolerating these violations,” the State Department statement clarifies.
Already under US sanctions, Cuba and Nicaragua could face further punitive measures in the absence of improvements, according to Washington.
Violations of religious freedom “sow division, undermine economic security, and threaten political stability and peace,” the US Secretary of State emphasized.
Blinken kept on this list all the states that had been on the list since 2021: China, Eritrea, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
