Video: Giant billboard collapses in India and kills four

At least four people were killed, 61 were injured and more than 40 were trapped after a 100-foot-tall billboard fell during a storm in India's financial capital Mumbai on Monday, Indian authorities said.

Watch video from CNN affiliate News-18:

The storm generated strong gusty winds causing the billboard, located next to a busy road in the suburb of Ghatkopar, to collapse onto houses and a gas station.

Rescue teams search for people trapped under the structure. Firefighters, police and other authorities are involved in the rescue efforts, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the civic body that administers Mumbai, at X.

Images of the giant billboard being blown away by the wind are circulating on social media.

According to the Indian meteorological department, the forecast is that rain and winds of 50 km/h will hit the region this Monday (13).

Mumbai airport suspended operations for an hour because of the storm. Around 15 flights were diverted to other cities, according to news agency ANI.

Mumbai, like many Indian cities, is prone to flooding during the monsoon season, Asia's rainy season, which generally runs from June to September every year.
