Flooding is common on Malaysia’s east coast during the monsoon period between October and March, but heavy rains this week have caused mass evictions, particularly in the northeastern state of Kelantan, which borders Thailand.
At least three people died and 94,778 were displaced to 527 temporary shelters in nine states, with Kelantan and Terengganu being the hardest hit, according to the National Disaster Command Center.
