Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian early this morning during clashes in the occupied West Bank in Jenin, Palestinian and Israeli officials said.
Mohamed Murray, 25, was killed by a bullet that hit him in the chest, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that the Palestinian was killed during an Israeli raid on the city.
The Israeli army said it had carried out an “anti-terrorist operation” overnight in several parts of the West Bank.
In Jenin, Palestinian gunmen opened fire on soldiers, according to the military.
“A number of suspects also hurled explosive devices at soldiers who responded with fire. A target was identified,” the military added, without elaborating on Murray’s death.
His death comes amid escalating violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Nineteen people – mostly Israeli civilians – have been killed since late March, mostly in attacks by Palestinians and Israeli Arabs.
Israeli security forces have responded with almost daily raids in the West Bank, including in and around Jenin.
