What is known about Salvador Ramos, suspect in the school shooting in the USA

An 18-year-old suspected of being the gunman who opened fire at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, in the United States, killing several students and teachers, died in the attack, authorities said. Authorities identified the shooter as Salvador Ramos.

Robb Elementary School, where Ramos opened fire, is located in Uvalde, a town in the county of the same name, Texas, about 136 kilometers west of San Antonio and about 112 kilometers east of Del Rio. The suspect resided in this city and had attended the secondary school in Uvalde.

He shot his grandmother before he went to elementary school

Before going armed to Robb Elementary School, Salvador Ramos is believed to have shot his grandmother, three police sources told CNN .

The suspect’s grandmother was taken to San Antonio and “is still waiting,” State Senator Roland Gutierrez said, according to information he received from the Texas Rangers.

“This young man shot his grandmother and fled the scene of the incident,” Gutierrez told Erin Burnett of the CNN .

Earlier, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that “the guy shot his grandmother just before going to school.”

Shooter acted alone

According to Abbott, the suspect arrived at the school armed with a pistol and possibly a rifle. “He shot and killed in a horrible way,” the governor said, talking about several elementary school students and a teacher.

Pete Arredondo, chief of police for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, said the gunman “acted alone during this heinous crime.”
