WhatsApp confirmed, this Thursday (26), the gradual release of the “Communities” feature in Brazil. The tool allows the creation of groups with up to five thousand people.
In February last year, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and WhatsApp signed an agreement to tackle misinformation disseminated during the electoral process. The platform then committed not to implement new features until the end of the election period.
According to the company, when entering a community, it is possible to go from one group to another with ease to access the necessary information at the right time. Also, admins can send updates to everyone in the group.
To get started, tap on the new Communities tab, located at the top of conversations on Android and the bottom on iOS. There, you can start a community from scratch or add existing groups.

WhatsApp said it will innovate with an “unprecedented level of privacy and security” with end-to-end encryption technology.
In addition to this novelty, the platform also announced three other new features:
- Polls within conversations
- Video call with 32 people
- Groups with up to 1,024 users
These resources can be used in any group, including communities.
