How campaign actions in the week of September 7 affect the electoral race

Brazil celebrates 200 years of independence this Wednesday, September 7, 2022. The national holiday of this bicentennial is celebrated at a decisive moment of the electoral campaign.

Less than a month before the first round of the presidential elections, the attention of the political scene is focused on the two candidates who lead the polls: former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the current president, and candidate for reelection, Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Bolsonaro supporters see the September 7 acts as an important milestone in the president’s re-election campaign, with the potential to take thousands of people to the streets and give impetus to the effort to reduce the PT candidate’s advantage in the polls.

Lula’s campaign, on the other hand, oriented allied parties and PT militancy not to promote public acts on the holiday to avoid the risk of possible confrontations. The former president’s supporters plan mobilizations for the following days, including events in the Baixada Fluminense and a series of demonstrations over the weekend.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, with the participation of the policy analyst from CNN Thais Arbex, Carol Nogueira presents a balance of expectations about the possible impacts on the electoral race of the events with the participation of the main candidates for the Presidency in the week of the holiday of September 7th.
