A coordinated operation involving the Federal Police rescued 16 workers living in conditions similar to slavery on coffee plantations in the municipalities of Santa Rosa da Serra and Campos Altos, in Minas Gerais, according to information published this Saturday (8).
The action was launched on Monday (3), following complaints. According to the PF, the workers were found in degrading and unsanitary conditions.

Workers will also be entitled to three installments of unemployment insurance and have their return to their places of origin guaranteed. The Public Ministry of Labor is still negotiating compensation for individual moral damages in favor of the workers.
During the operations, inspections were carried out on the reported rural properties, and those responsible were identified and can be investigated for the crimes of reducing conditions similar to slavery, in addition to other labor infractions.
